Skandha Sashti Kavacham

Skanda Sashti Kavacham

(By Devaraya SwamigalTranslated by P. R. Ramachander)
“Kanda Shasti Kavasam is composed by Devaraya Swamigal. This is a rare and valuable treasure that helps one to be successful in day-to-day life.In Kanda Sasti Kavacam the author prays to Lord Muruga to shower His grace. It is certain that by regular chanting of this kavacam all the predicaments of life are resolved. People without children will enjoy .. Prosperity and plenty will abound. Peace will prevail at home. The devotee who reads it will enjoy every good fortune under the sun. As a warrior going to battle puts on armour to protect himself, the Kanda Sasti Kavacam also helps one to be safe in day-to-day life”
A few words about Sashti

Sashti is the day the Lord Subramanya defeated the demon Soorapadma and saved the Earth from his evils. When the devas couldn't tolerate the evil doings of this demon, they approached the younger son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. The kind Lord went on a war against Soorapadman. The war was waged for six days, at the end of which the Lord vanquished the asura. He threw his weapon at him and Soorapadman was split into two halves. One half became a peacock, which He took as His vaahana. The other became a cock and was transformed into his flag.
The devas, who were tormented by Soorapadman, rejoiced - they praised the Lord and prayed to him for six days. Devotees usually narrate the kanda sashti kavacham, during this period. Whoever fasts for these six days of Skanda Sashti and prays to Lord Muruga steadfastly, it is said that they would get the blessings of Lord Muruga. Those who are unable to fast for a whole day for a six-day duration, can eat just one meal during this period.

AKSHAYA TRITIYA

Once a YearAkshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of the bright half of Vaishakh month (April-May), when the Sun and Moon are in exaltation; they are simultaneously at their peak of brightness, which happens only once every year.
Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most sacred and widely celebrated festivals of Hindus. It falls on the third day(Tritiya) of the bright half moon of the Vaisakha month(April-May). For 2008, the day falls on 7th May, Sunday.May 1 to May 8 is good day for buying gold .
Thruthiyai is the third day after the New Moon. Akshayam means “ growth”. In the tamil month of Chithirai, the thruthiyai which falls in the Shukla Paksham (valar pirai) is called Akshaya Thruthiyai. Thrythiyai occurs ever month, but the one in Chithirai is celebrated specially. On every thruthiyai, Chandra darisanam is considered auspicious.

One of the four most auspicious days of the Vedic calendar is Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on May 7.The other three days being the Ugadi, Vijayadashami and Balipaadyami, which are all celebrated widely.
May 7 is a day of good luck, fortune and successwhen the sun and the moon are simultaneously at their peak brightness.
According to the Tritiya legend, which originates from the Mahabharata (India’s greatest epic), the Sanskrit word Akshaya means “one that never diminishes”.
Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third lunar day from the new moon. and every year, Akshaya Tritiya falls between April 14 and May 14.
During this period, the Sun will be in Aries, which is in exalted position while the Moon will be in another exalted position, that of Taurus. The Sun, the lord of the planets, and the Moon, the lord of creativity, are both exalted, so the day is considered to be a very auspicious.
This sacred day is considered more significant if it falls on a Wednesday or Friday. This year, it falls on a Wednesday.
On this day, it would be a good time to bring home the image of the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, in any form, gold, silver, platinum, diamond or precious stones, and property.
The legend states that any venture initiated on this day shall continue to grow and bring prosperity.
In India, the day is celebrated grandly with people purchasing jewellery because valuables that are acquired on Akshaya Tritiya are expected to be replenished endlessly.
The day is also recognised for our good deeds and the individuals are blessed abundantly. This is the reason why many people make donationsor give alms (guru dakshina) on this day, in the hope of earning merit for life. People are also urged to get blessings from parents or guardians.
Performing the special Mahalakshmi ritual in the house is recommended as it will remove all negative entities and invoke subtle prosperous energy into the space.
According to scriptures, this day is considered sacred and donating certain items such as umbrellas, fans or sandals to holy men is encouraged. It is also good to treat people to a feast.
On this day articles given, in form of alms, dakshina to guru, these things include grain money, and donations. Anushtaans done for Mahalaxmiji, the Godess of wealth, will be beneficial for blessings of prosperity all year round. Visit Mahalaxmiji mandir, and 4 coins should be thrown in all 4 directions, this will open doors to wealth. Chanting Anang mantra "Om Hloum Hloom Anangaay Phat" makes one physically fit and reduces impotency problems. Married women wear a red thread with vermillion around their necks and invoke good wishes in a Shiv mandir for longevity of their husbands. Unmarried ones put it on the feet of Lord Shiva to get the husband they wish for. Visit Shiv mandir with neem leaves and after offering to Shiva put under the pillow of a sick person, the person will recover from his illness and evil eyes. It is the day of eternal prosperity for any auspicious beginning and buying valuables, gold items or remedial measures.
AKSHAYA TRITIYA
Indians believe passionately in the theory of muhurts or auspicious times to perform sacraments, to make major purchases. Akshaya Tritiya, the third day of the bright half of Vaishakh, is considered one of the four most sacred days of the vear. The word Akshaya means that which never diminishes - hence beginnings made or valuables bought on this day are considered certain to bring luck and success. All over India people celebrate weddings, plan new business ventures, long journeys and other events on this day. Akshava Tritiva is reserved for buying gold, silver and other assets. On this day jewellers keep their shops open well into twilight time to entertain their buyers. Akshaya Tritiya or Akha TeeJ is traditionally the birthday of Parshurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu. The Puranas tell how he reclaimed land from the sea along the west coast of India by his valour. In India gold is regarded as the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity. Buying gold and jewellery is a popular activity on Akshaya Tritiya, one of the most auspicious days of the year.
Specifically doing annadhanam(offering food to the poor )is the best deed for the day.so try to feed the poor and needy on that day.god will bless you .

It is believed that one gets ‘punya’ in life by doing good deeds on this day. It is desirable to:
1. Donate for ‘annadanam’ in temples on this auspicious day
2. Feed cows with green fodder
3. Resolve to take up the education expenses of a deserving, needy child
4. Forgive and forget the past and renew relationships with friends and relatives
5. Resolve to give up a bad habit - smoking, drinking etc.
6. Resolve to start a good habit - learn and practise Yoga.
7.By visiting temples, especially the Mahalakshmi Temple and let Goddess Mahalakshmi always shower her blessings on you throughout the year.
8.In home do Mahalakshmi puja.
Lakshmi kunera homa is one of the auspicious homa performed on Akshaya Tritiya day. The various homams that can be performed on that day are
1. Ganapathy homam - For the well being of your family.
2 . Shatru shanti homa - To safeguard from ill effects and enemies.
3 . Visit Shiva Vishnu temple. Mahalakshmi temple.
The day gains more importance when it falls on a Monday or under the Rohini Star.
According to the Vedas, it was on the day of Akshay Tritiiya that Veda Vyasa along with Lord Ganesha started writing the epic, Mahabharata.
It is also traditionally observed as the birthday of Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
The day is generally observed by fasting and worship Lord Vasudeva with rice grains.
As this day is considered to be very auspicious you can buy gold.
You can also buy property on this day.
Vedas say that knowledge gained or charity done on this day is very fruitful.
For charity you can give rice, salt, ghee, sugar, vegetables, tamarind, fruit, clothes.
You have to maintain fast on this day.
Buy a lot of flowers on this day and place them at a pot or bowl filled with water and keep it in your pooja room.
Apart from gold you can buy anything you want. Property, silver, jewellery, clothes or even buying flowers is more than enough.
It is not like that if you buy something on that day you will get more of it.
Akshay tritiya is considered to be the most auspicious day that even there is no need to check muhurrat.
That day is for worshipping, celebrating and to start a new beggining...
So its your wish to buy whatever you want...
On this day, praying to Lordess Lakshmi, by doing Lakshmi Puja and or reciting Kanakadhara Stotram is best. Also on this day, pujas like Ganapathi Homam, Navagraha Homam and other pujas for the wellbeing of family could be done.
